The holidays are a time for indulging in joyous celebration, tempting dishes, and enjoying the company of your loving family. This is the ideal, picture-perfect holiday sight, but most families live a far more hectic scene.

They’re divorced and trying to schedule two Thanksgivings, two Christmases, and figure out who gets the real big day and who gets to pretend on a day before or after. They’re happily married but have extended family on both sides who insist that the whole family simply must be together for every holiday and gets hurt or offended if you decline. They have grown or nearly grown children who want to invite girlfriends or boyfriends who have been a part of their lives for anywhere between a day and a year.

And that’s not even getting into the issues like who cooks what, who gets to host, appropriate dress, and how to deal with Uncle Earl who always has a little too much whiskey and makes everyone else uncomfortable.
