These situations are incredibly complicated. And frankly, they’re very unfair. Someone else’s immoral decision ends up putting you in a position where you have to decide what you can live with morally.

It sounds like for your situation, it was the right decision to tell. And it’s great that the other couple was able to work things out.

There are so many ways this can go, though, that it really is important that each person who finds themselves in this situation takes the time to think it through. Telling might be the honorable thing to do, but I don’t think it’s necessarily shameful to decide not to tell either. Again, it’s just another unfair side effect of someone else’s poor decision.
