There’s doing something they dont enjoy out of ignorance/innocence, and then there’s deliberately doing it.

The thought does count when someone doesn’t know better. And in that instance, I think it’s important to tell them you appreciate what they did, and bring up what you’d have preferred another time. They tried, and that definitely counts.

But if I’ve said I hate coffee-flavored ice cream and my partner keeps buying it, that’s not innocent or ignorant, and a sign of deeper problems. I’ve done my part to tell my partner what I need/want and they aren’t listening.
