The drug problem I am certain of. Mental health issues, I suspect he probably does have them. But I’m not trained to diagnose that kind of thing and so I don’t want to say things like that without the actual knowledge to back it up.

Also, based on some things he’d said, his car accident was severe enough that brain damage is a possibility. Since I didn’t know him before the accident, I can’t compare his behavior to know. And I didn’t want to be rude and just ask if he had brain damage.
