That’s what really got me, was that he didn’t seem the least bit ashamed or even mildly embarrassed at what he was presenting to me. If I invited someone to my home and it looked like that, I’d be humiliated and be like, “I’ve been sick, on death’s door, for a year now, so please excuse the mess.” It’d be a lie, but I’d never want to admit to living like that! And he just walked around in it like it was perfectly normal and everyone lives like that.

This was definitely one of those experiences where there’s no question about whether there’s compatibility. My biggest regret is that I let fear stop me from walking out the door immediately and leaving.

But at least it gave me a story to tell, so I guess there’s that.
