There is perhaps nothing worse than a cranky toddler. There are tears, screams, tearing of hair — and then there’s what your toddler does. Calling a tired toddler’s behavior a tantrum is an understatement. We don’t want tired and cranky little ones on our hands, but sometimes it seems unavoidable. They can’t sleep, they wake up early, they don’t want to nap.

While it might seem like you can’t avoid a tired kiddo, there are a few tricks you can try that might make sleep less of a battle and more of a welcome friend.

Set up a bedtime routine

Bath, teeth, pajamas, story, bed. Your routine might vary in the specifics, but having a routine that leads up to climbing into bed, closing little eyelids and falling asleep makes that falling asleep part easier. It helps to have parts of the routine that are specific to bedtime only — like putting on pajamas.
