Being a single parent was never in my plan. I always envisioned raising my kids with their father, growing old and living happily ever after. My fairy tale fantasy fell apart and after a few years of marriage, I became a single mom to two young kids. I’ve spent the last decade and a half parenting on my own, and I’ve learned a few things.
Each single parent, and their family, is different. But there are a few truths that I think are pretty universal and important to keep in mind if you’re becoming a single parent for the first time.
Take it easy on yourself
You’ve got a kid or five to take care of, a house to clean, meals to cook, a job or business to stay on top of. It’s a lot! Don’t be hard on yourself if you don’t always get everything done or things fall through the cracks occasionally.
