Lessons Learned In 40 Years

I turned 40 in January. For a long time, I dreaded it. I did not want to turn 40. Every time my ex-boyfriend teased me about it, or my kids mentioned it, I would groan and roll my eyes. I was not looking forward to it.

But then a few weeks ago, it all changed. I just “settled” into the idea of turning 40. It began to feel good. Right. Comfortable. I now feel at peace with being 40. Proud, even.

And the difference, I realized, is that I had been looking at turning 40 as a bad thing. I saw it as a sign of aging, as a sign that I’m no longer as youthful as I…
