Now that I’m in my 40s, I’ve learned some things that would have been helpful back then

TThere’s a saying about youth being wasted on the young. While I don’t think I’m old at 41, I do think there’s a wisdom that comes with getting older that would have been helpful in my 20s.

When I reflect on that decade of my life, there are a lot of things I would have done differently. But there are a few things that I think are universal. And I think the inexperience and naivete of youth makes many of us miss these things until we’re long past the time they would have been useful.

If I had the chance to go back, these are the things I’d keep in mind and do differently than I did the first time around. And if you’re still in your 20s, you might want to at least think about these things. They might make a huge difference in how the rest of your life turns out.

Look at the bird’s-eye view of your life

A breakup. A job loss. A roommate who moves out and sticks you with the rent. A friend who gossips about you behind your back. There are so many things that can create stress and drama in your life.
