How to Be Authentic in Dating

Being authentic is the first step toward finding a lasting, happy relationship

Dating can feel a lot like a job interview sometimes. You want to put your best foot forward and make a good impression. You want to be liked. You want to find something substantial that lasts.

Where dating diverges from a job interview, however, is the impact the wrong relationship can have on your whole life. You can look for another job while still working at one you hate — but that’s frowned on in dating. And your employer isn’t going to try to take half your stuff or get custody of your kids if you quit — but that can happen if you marry the wrong person.

So how do you avoid the fallout of a bad relationship? It starts with being authentic when you’re dating.

By being authentic, being completely yourself, you show someone exactly who and what they’re getting if they get involved with you. They go in with eyes wide open.

And if you’re lucky, the other person will be just as authentic with you, so that you can also go in with eyes wide open and be certain of who and what you’re getting.
