Criteria are definitely important. I’ve found that I do have a little more luck when I ask how long a man has been divorced. I find that the more recently divorced they are, the more they seem to try to fall into the same kind of behaviors they did while they were married — wanting the woman to carry the conversation or do the planning if that’s what their ex-wife did, for example.

I did do some reflecting after I started dating again and did find there were some areas where I had to up my game a bit too. Whether it was improving some social skills, evaluating expectations, or realizing I needed to be clearer about what I was looking for so that men didn’t ask me out thinking we both wanted the same thing when we actually didn’t, I needed some work too. It’s definitely not all on the men. lol
