Finding Pleasure in Every Day

What are the pleasures you find in your day?

I live in Florida, and about a month ago, we had a day that was cool enough to open the windows and let the fresh air in. After two hurricanes, this was really nice. But that was not the moment of pleasure I found that day.

No, that day’s big moment of pleasure was when I stepped out of the shower. The bathroom window was still open, and a perfectly timed breeze that was just cool enough, blew in and danced across my still-wet skin. This breeze was absolutely glorious! Just cool enough to feel good while being warm enough that I didn’t get a chill. Lasting long enough to really feel good without being so long that I could get bored. Fragrant with the hints of fall, bonfire smoke, and delicious fresh air.

This was a moment that was absolute bliss.

More recently, it’s been super cold at night. One recent night, my big moment of pleasure was snuggling in under the covers and feeling so toasty warm as I got ready to drift off to sleep. One morning, the big moment of pleasure was waking up in that warmth and simply lying there for a couple of extra minutes, soaking it in, before I got up and began my day.

A delicious cup of hot chocolate.

Five minutes spent in slow movement to my favorite song.

Staring at the flame of a candle and breathing in the delicate fragrance.
