Do Your Goals Match Your Passions?
And if they don’t, why are they your goals?
Today is the first day of a new year. And it’s also a day that many of us set ourselves up for failure. That’s right, I’m talking about the equally dreaded and anticipated resolutions.
We set resolutions at the beginning of a new year as goals we intend to achieve. We’re filled with hope and promise and convinced that we can lose weight, stop smoking, eat healthier, go back to school, or any of the other million things we set as resolutions.
But how often do we make sure those goals are aligned with our passions?
I think the answer is not often. Let’s face it. Realistically, many of us don’t resolve to lose weight or stop smoking because we’re passionate about it. We do it because we know we need to for better health or less pain or a longer life. And while those are good reasons, they might not be motivation enough.
And if you’re setting other resolutions, like going back to school or starting your own business, passion needs to be the driver because without passion, the first time things get hard, your goal is going to be the first thing you let go of.
Making sure our goals are properly aligned with our passions only makes sense. If you have the wish to move up the corporate ladder…
