Do You Engage in Self-Reflection? You Should!
Why self-reflection during or after meditation is a necessary part of your practice.
As a meditation teacher, I generally meditate daily. But sometimes life gets in the way and I skip a day or two — or a week or six. It happens, and while it’s not ideal, I’m also not going to beat myself up over it.
Because it’s been a habit for so long, I can feel a difference when I skip it for even one day. I can feel the difference in my patience, in how easily annoyed I might get, and in lowered productivity and creativity. I don’t even need to think about it; I just know.
If you’re newer to meditation, you may not notice the differences between a meditative you and a non-meditative you. But you can, if you take a few minutes during or after your meditation sessions to engage in some self-reflection.
The purpose of self-reflection
Self-reflection allows us to notice changes within ourselves, to compare a past version of ourselves to the current version and determine growth. It also allows us to compare our current self to the self we aspire to be and map out a path to grow into that person.
