Dear Moms Who Hate Their Mother-in-Law, Here’s Why You Shouldn’t
Just a friendly reminder of the future!
When I met my ex-husband’s family, I was very excited for a good relationship with my mother-in-law. My mom had a great relationship with hers. In fact, my grandmother had great relationships with all her children’s spouses. She made sure they all felt welcomed and loved and I hoped my mother-in-law would do the same.
She did not.
She didn’t like me from the moment she met me, unfortunately. I tried for quite a while to forge a friendly, or even civil, relationship with her, but it never happened. I eventually gave up.
I will freely admit that I didn’t like her. I can’t say how much of my dislike for her was about her as a person and how much was about the fact that she didn’t like me first. But I didn’t like her.
But here’s the thing. As someone who is about to become a mother-in-law myself, you might want to watch what you say and express because you’ll be surprised at how it might bite you in the ass later.
