Crafting a Morning Routine for Your Kids

You’re not the only one who needs routine to get going

When you’re a single parent, routines can be your best friend. From a morning routine that gets you out the door, an evening routine that makes dinnertime and homework less of a hassle, to a weekend routine that truly helps you feel refreshed, the consistency really helps you feel grounded and confident in what you’re doing.

But what about your kiddos? You might include them in your routines, planning to ensure they’re ready to leave when you are in the morning or that they get their homework done even when you need to grocery shop after work. But have you considered that merely being a part of your routine, without one of their own, may be leaving them feeling a little dragged along? Perhaps even rushed, frustrated, or off center?

Whether they’re preschoolers, pre-teens, or with one foot out the door to college, kids benefit from routines too — and they particularly benefit from having a routine of their own, rather than just being a piece of yours.

“Yeah, if I let my kid create a morning routine, it’ll be cartoons and pajamas until noon! I can’t do that!”

I totally get it. Some kids aren’t mature enough yet to truly craft an effective morning routine. And even those that are might…
