We all know at least one person who isn’t close to their parents. It’s not that there was any abuse or neglect, or even a “bad” relationship, per se. There just aren’t any close ties between parent and adult child. And most of us tend to find that at least a little sad. If you’re one of those people who doesn’t have close ties with their parents, you might be determined to make sure it’s different with your own children. Luckily, you can.

And even if you have a close relationship with your own parents, you might not be entirely sure how it came about. What did your parents do, exactly, that created the connections you share? Particularly if your parents worked hard at it when you were very young, you might feel clueless about what you should do to make those connections with your kids.

Children have an amazing capacity to learn. They’re like sponges in the early years and they easily form memories that are cherished for a lifetime. And even if your kids are older, you can still build and/or strengthen those relationships.
