8 Tips For Easier Communication With Your Kids

When kids first learn to talk, they’ll talk your ear off. As they get older, the words get fewer and sometimes sharper. But you don’t have to settle for a lack of conversation with your kid. Try these eight tips to create easier communication with your kids.

Have an open-door policy from the beginning

If your kids are already teens, you can still implement an open-door policy. But if your kids are younger, it’s a good way to lay the foundation for the teen years.

An open-door policy simply means letting your kids know that you are there for them, any time, for anything. This means you don’t discount their concerns as being silly or minor or not worth talking about. Even if you believe they are silly, minor or not worth talking about, you let them talk and offer advice as needed or wanted.

It also means not brushing your kiddo off if they want to talk. Naturally, there are times they want to talk and it’s truly not a good time. But instead of simply saying you don’t have time right now, try something like, “I would love to talk about this with you. Right now, I need to focus on making dinner. How about you find me…
