7 Tips for Defining the Relationship

When you’re ready to have “the talk,” there are a few key things to do

The evolution of a relationship typically follows a straight path for most couples. And somewhere along that path is usually a conversation during which the couple defines their relationship as one.

Sometimes that conversation is incredibly simple. Both people are ready, both people are on the same page, and it’s a smooth, quick talk that moves the relationship forward.

But sometimes it’s not so simple. Sometimes you’re ready but you’re not sure if the other person is or you’re not sure how to start the conversation. You might not even be sure you want to have the conversation but you feel like it’s time.

With that in mind, here are some of my best tips for having “the talk.”

Don’t hurry into it

All relationships follow their own timeline. While you might decide to date exclusively after three dates with one person, it might take six months with another. So don’t feel like you have to rush to have this conversation.

Even if you really like someone, there’s no pressure to rush into anything. Take your time and really get to know this person first. What seems so great about someone on the sixth date…
