4 Questions the Beginning Meditator Should Ask
There are a couple of simple questions you need to answer before you start meditating.
I talk about the benefits of meditation frequently. And there are a ton of them. But there can also be some real concerns, unrealistic expectations, and best practices to ensuring that your meditation practice is both beneficial and safe.
While I believe working with a meditation teacher is one of the best ways to get started, if you’re unwilling or unable to do that, answering these four questions for yourself is the next best thing.
Do you know why you want to meditate?
Some people don’t need a reason to meditate. They enjoy it and that’s enough for them. But if you’re a beginner and haven’t meditated before, having a reason why can be a huge help in motivating you and helping you evaluate your practice.
Some reasons might include:
· Reducing stress
· Lowering blood pressure
· Improving sleep
· Easing anxiety
· Regulating emotions
· Weight loss/management
