3 Tips for Reconnecting with Your Identity Beyond Motherhood
If you’re not sure who you are other than “Mom,” these tips can help
Becoming a mother is taking on a new identity. It’s a role that takes over so much of your life because of it’s incredibly demanding nature. And that’s what makes it so easy to lose yourself in your identity as a mother and forget who you are beyond that.
But this is also, in my opinion, one of the biggest reasons many moms struggle with the empty nest. Once the kids are gone and no longer need you to parent them on a daily basis, you need to reconnect with your identity beyond motherhood. Unfortunately, if you’ve been so focused on mothering and forgotten who you are, this is incredibly difficult to do.
And that’s why I want to offer these three tips today. Whether you start these while you’re pregnant, or when your kid is 17 and getting close to venturing out on their own, doing these things can help you start to find those other parts of your identity so you can be more than just “Mom.” Because while being “Mom” is awesome, we all need to be more than that, for our own sake as well as our kids’.
