Sometimes we parent from habit rather than in the moment. We issue the same punishments over and over. We only half-listen when the kids are talking. We rush to get from work to home to sports practice to home again, and it’s all a big blur when it’s over.

Most of us don’t like being in that mental space. We want to enjoy our time with our kids. We want to hear everything they want to tell us. We want to be fair and just. We want to be a good parent.

One way to ensure you’re the good parent you want to be is to be a mindful parent. When you hear those words, mindful parent, it can sound more complicated than it really is. You don’t need to take a class or buy a bunch of books in order to be a more mindful parent.

All you really need to do is make the conscious choice. Then follow a few simple, easy tips that will put you on the path to mindfulness. In no time at all, you’ll be a more mindful parent and enjoy a better relationship with your kids.
